A comfortable office chair

A comfortable office chair. For comfortable working and studying.

If a chair does not meet the minimum ergonomic requirements, we may very quickly start to experience back and spinal pain, pain in the knees and calves, neck and shoulders, or headaches. We are also likely to experience problems with concentration and other ailments. That is why ergonomics is an extremely important factor.

Ergonomics is undoubtedly the most important factor. How can we assess the level of ergonomics in a chair we’re planning to buy? It’s relatively straightforward if we take a few key factors into account. It is also important to analyse our working style, which will help us identify the key and secondary factors.

  • height: office chair It must allow the seat to be raised in such a way that the legs remain bent at the knees at a 90° angle. A chair that is too low, or indeed too high, does not allow for the correct distribution of weight along the spine, which may cause pain;
  • armrests: In most office chairs, they are narrow and hard. This is not the best solution. Armrests should be soft and wide, and provide support for your arms at all times.
  • backrest: It should be contoured to the shape of the spine, ideally with lumbar support. Additional features TILT PLUS allowing the backrest to be reclined into a relaxation position and to rock.
  • seat: It should be soft and deep. You should be able to sit comfortably and enjoyably.

The base of an office chair also has a significant impact on ergonomics, and choosing the right one is very important. The base itself and the castors of office chairs are made from various materials. The base must be sturdy and stable, allowing for smooth movement, whilst also looking elegant; metal five-star bases are the best choice. Due to the level of friction, the castors should be fitted with a rubber coating, which prevents scratches on wooden floors, allow them to move steadily on slippery surfaces such as ceramic tiles, and glide smoothly and effortlessly across carpets.
