Gothic Remake już po premierze! Czy Alkimia Interactive wskrzesiła legendę RPG?

Gothic Remake has been released! Has Alkimia Interactive revived the RPG legend?

It’s happened. 5 June 2026 will go down in the history of the gaming industry as the day we once again crossed the border into the Miners’ Valley. The release of Gothic Remake is one of the most significant events of recent years. Have the developers managed to strike the perfect balance between the uncompromising spirit of the original and the standards of modern gaming? The gaming world has only just begun to assess this, and the first reviews on Steam are a source of great optimism.

The weight of a classic: how Alkimia Interactive coped with the pressure

The road to this launch has been a bumpy one. The team faced the daunting task of reconciling fans of the original, who expected absolute fidelity to the source material, with a new generation of players. As initial reviews suggest, the developers have largely managed to satisfy both groups, though it hasn’t been without technical controversies and discussions about the new mechanics.

A return to the Mining Valley and a reality check

From the outset, the success of this project rested on three fundamental elements. Today, thanks to accounts from players and journalists, we know exactly how they fared during gameplay.

1. The atmosphere and an expanded, ruthless world

The switch to Unreal Engine 5 has given the developers powerful tools, which is evident at every turn. The Miners’ Valley has been expanded by around 20 per cent compared to the original, offering a wealth of new paths and locations. The world is visually stunning, and the scenery (such as the choppy sea near the Brotherhood Camp) is breathtaking. Reviewers (including journalists from the American IGN) are also delighted by the lack of a ‘hand-holding’ approach. The absence of a map at the start and the need to rely on clues and one’s own memory are a major asset these days.

2. Combat system and new mechanics

No more clumsy sword-wielding. Combat is a real ordeal at the start and serves as a reminder of the original’s brutality – even a clash with two rats can prove fatal. Once you’ve developed your skills, however, the battles are great fun.

  • The use of magic has been improved; it looks spectacular and is great fun.
  • Archery has gained more depth – the draw length matters, and headshots have a real impact on damage.
  • The game features a whole host of new additions: a modular armour upgrade system, complex lock-picking mini-games, and even the chance to acquire… a mount!

3. Kai Rosenkranz and the sound design

The soundtrack is the absolute highlight of this revamped version. The new and remastered tracks perfectly capture the dark atmosphere of Cologne. The Polish dubbing is excellent, and the appearance of Jan Błachowicz is a huge surprise – the former UFC champion plays the role of a trainer in the game. Jacek Mikołajczak has returned as the Nameless One, which will particularly delight fans of the first Gothic.

Gothic Remake launch – player reviews

Unfortunately, the return to Cologne is not without technical problems, which are provoking strong reactions.

What irritates players the most after a game’s release?

  • Performance issues on consoles – on the standard PlayStation 5, the game runs at just 30 frames per second.
  • A loss of immersion – players are complaining about the lack of facial expressions among non-player characters and lighting glitches.

The dawn of a new era or a painful downfall?

Now it’s up to the players to pass final judgement. One thing is certain – Gothic Remake is gripping, engages you with its non-linearity and rewards patient exploration. Admittedly, the game has its technical issues, but beneath them beats the true, old-school heart of this cult RPG.

So, what are your first impressions following the premiere? Did *Górnicza Dolina* captivate you just as much as it did all those years ago? We look forward to reading your comments!
